When we started Xootf, we had a simple goal: to build a service that could help people protect their personal identity and privacy, while giving them greater control over how they communicate online.
We genuinely believed there was a place for a service like this, and we put a great deal of time, effort, and care into building Xootf around that idea.
Unfortunately, a recent audit conducted together with our upstream providers forced us to take a much closer look at how the platform was actually being used.
What we found was deeply disappointing.
The reality is that a significant majority of the activity on Xootf was no longer aligned with the purpose for which we created the service. While many customers used Xootf legitimately and exactly as we intended, we could no longer ignore that the platform was also being misused in ways we never wanted to enable.
Xootf was created to help protect privacy — not to provide a tool for scams, fraud, harassment, abuse, or other criminal activity.
We considered whether stricter verification, additional monitoring, tighter restrictions, or changes to the service could allow us to continue operating. Ultimately, however, we came to the difficult conclusion that doing so would fundamentally change what Xootf was meant to be, while still not giving us enough confidence that the platform could be operated responsibly.
Because of that, we have made the difficult decision to shut Xootf down entirely.
This is not the ending we hoped for.
To everyone who used Xootf for legitimate purposes, supported us, trusted our service, or simply believed in what we were trying to build: thank you. We are genuinely sorry that the actions of those who misused the platform have affected customers who did nothing wrong.
Building Xootf has been an experience we will remember for a long time. Although the service is ending, we still believe strongly in the importance of privacy and in giving people more control over their digital identity.
Sometimes, however, the responsible decision is knowing when a service can no longer continue in the way it was intended.
We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this closure may cause, and we sincerely appreciate everyone who supported Xootf along the way.
Thank you for being with us.
